Despite feeling completely out of touch with most pop culture since going to uni, especially the top 40. I did manage to stumble across and watch Rihanna's new video for We Found Love. Much like Gem It totally re-awakened my love for that This is England, 1980's, skinhead style.

I desperately want a shorter pair of docs to wear like this but my 14 eyelets will do for now. I guess this outfit strays from my usual style a bit but i feel super comfortable so it's pretty irrelevant. My hair and face wouldn't play ball today so i only liked the shots where i wasn't looking into the camera, not trying to be super fashun blogger-y with my photos, i promise!

I can't think of a good way to smoothly transfer to this but i need to let y'all know how much i am loving being back at home and blogging this much, it's bringing me a whole ton of joy : D

Saturday night was a total babe-fest! Me and my lovely Lauren went on a wild night out to drink and dance and laugh and eat bad drunk food. It was so beautiful i'm kinda sad it ended.
I'd had this outfit planned in my head for so, soooo long i was more than happy to get the chance to wear it. It's definitely one of my favourites that i've put together! I also styled Lauren for the evening, which is why she's wearing my shoes (i made her wear heels because those wedges make me crazy tall)
Speaking of shoes, i am dying to get my hands on more platform wedges: if anyone can recommend any that would be great i need at least a UK 9 and don't want to burn a hole in my purse : )

We did a proper little photo shoot so this is about to get seriously picture heavy, we just both decided, in a non stuck up our own arses way, that we looked awesome, even named ourselves Babe-raham Lincoln and Babe-ak Obama for the evening.
Oh man i love all girl nights out!

 

Skirt Season

Well i can't speak for "all the ladies" but i know i'm loving skirts of the shorter variety right now. I adore seeing the midi trend on everyone else but i can't dig it on my fine self, i think it's the shortening affect that seems to really go to town on me, it's like i put a calf length skirt on and suddenly i could be one of Santa's helpers! I have a couple of recently purchased shorter skirts but i really want to add more and these are three that i found on Topshop.com today:

This is quite a lengthy post i've done on something that doesn't really rank hugely highly in my list of things i first look at when eyeing up the opposite sex, i've done it because i was inspired to and because it's great to see anyone with good personal style, male or female.
Not because i turn away any man who "hasn't made an effort"

What Friday Night Taught Me

I went out for a friend's birthday last night, and a quiet drink quickly turned into several rather noisy but very enjoyable ones.

I'm posting a picture of what i wore, even though looking back i was/am not really feeling it.

I always think of my style as being pretty concrete, yet i can never really describe it and it's not something at the forefront of my mind when i shop, i buy what i like and it somehow all fits together. But having the childlike nature that i have i am prone to random bursts of wanting to play dress up or just letting things like clouds (yes, clouds) inspire my outfit choices.
Last night was a cloud night. The sunset was a stunner, big fluffy golden and pink clouds and big patches of bright blue sky, the kind of blue you want to eat 'cos it looks so good.
I threw on my new H&M dress (which I'd like to say is for sure more of a top and i shall not be wearing it out with anything less than leggings) and then decided to wear a long forgotten waistcoat and light tan cowboys with it. I liked it, but something felt a bit odd, i put this down to the large glass of wine I'd had and carried on.

I enjoyed my night thoroughly and my outfit in now way held me back, but it is definitely one that i'll look back on and it'll stick out as not being in line with other stuff or not being as well put together or not being as flattering, that doesn't bother me, it just made me think.

What Friday Night Taught Me is that i will never be able to pin my style down exactly, some days i have the balls to wear two prints, others i go for simplicity, sometimes i feel girlie others not, and sometimes, just sometimes; i want to dress like a pink sunset cloud mixed in with a train conductor and a cowboy ballerina. Style is a extension of your personality after all, an expression of who you are, so does it really matter if every day you dress like your from a different decade? Nope. As long as you're happy and doing your thaang.

Pretty In Pink

I had myself a little future panic this afternoon, concerning university and other things. I felt the need to calm myself with biscuits and films so sat down and watched Pretty In Pink.

I love the 80's and did a 20 minute version of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night for my A Level Drama Exam that was set in the glorious 1980's and one of the things i loved the most about doing it was designing and sourcing the costumes. (I loved it so much I'm hoping to direct//creative direct a full length version some time soon)

Now, the 80's is sometimes referred to as the time that fashion forgot, and i may not completely channel the early Madonna look myself, but i love the styles of the time. There were so many and i love the extravagance and glamour and eccentricity of it all.
