Edinburgh Baby!

I have some amazing friends.
Made evident by the events that led me to have a free 3 days in Edinburgh the other week.

Long Story Short.
If someone* offers you a free lift and 3 paid for nights in a hostel.
Don't turn it down.
Get in their car, get in their car and never look back.

*exceptions - if that someone is unsavoury or shifty lookin', in the words of MJ, do think twice.

Because my trip was so very last minute, despite the Fringe being on i didn't see any theatre. I decided to use my time to chill out. It's not that the last couple months has been manic or anything, quite the opposite, but a bit of time to check in with yo' self is always valuable and lord knows the next couple months will be crazy, so i'm logging in those chill out hours now!

I visited Holyrood Park, strolled around Edinburgh City Centre (a-lot), hit up the National Museum and managed to spend one evening with the friend who took me up there (she was visiting her sister so i was kinda dropped off and left to my own devices mostly).

Our evening out was one of the best i've had in a long time. After meeting up we left to find somewhere to eat and just as we did torrential, crazy ass rain started. Because we were wet and cold we dived into the first good looking restaurant we saw which turned out to be an amazing Italian (after an extensive google session i'm 99% it was The Patio on Hanover St.) and then we headed to Jekyll & Hyde for drinks and some free comedy. The pub is a must see if you're ever in the area, it's a Halloween lovers paradise, you have to go through a book case door to get to the loo! The comedy we saw was hilarious and because i am a walking cliche of a drama student i ended up "on stage", typical!

Anyway, before i get stupidly caught up in sharing every last detail.
I'll stop.

I had an amazing time.
And i fucking love random opportunities.

Weihnachtsmarkt

Friday is the only weekday that i don't have lectures this semester so this week i decided to go a bit nuts and spend the day in Birmingham. Normally i spend it in pajamas!
The Frankfurt Christmas Market is on sooo, on top of all the usual shopping brum has to offer there was Glühwein and lights and homemade awesome stuff :)

I headed up on the train with a flatmate and we spent the whole day walking around, i introduced her t the wonders of the Selfridges and warm krispy kremes, NOM. We were pretty much frozen solid by the end of the day and my feet were seconds away from falling off but it was worth it. I got so much xmas shopping done!

TOP:TESCO CARDIGAN:EVANS SKIRT:TOPSHOP COAT, TIGHTS, SOCKS&BOOTS:PRIMARK

Where to begin with this outfit. I love it, all of it! And so much is new.
The is the coat i've been meaning to post on forever, it's wool blend and warm and beautiful and it cost the grand total of £10, no one can understand the love i currently have for Primark sales!!! Speaking of Primark, the tights are the super cosy ones they sell, i had to cut the feet open and wear them as leggings because my legs are stupidly long but they didn't disapoint, my legs were toasty all day.
I was wearing a lot of layers and wool so i wanted to soften it up a bit with the chiffon-y Tesco top, i really like how it came out and i know the pictures aren't fantastic but i'm sure y'all can kinda see what i mean, right?!?!

After my day out blowing savings and not doing work it is back to the grind today, hello essays and line learning! On a plus note however i go home to Devon a week today and i will, like last time, be posting tons!!

Seattle: Final Post

Almost a year ago i decided to spend a month in America, more specifically Seattle, Washington.
Everyone i speak to asks "Why Seattle?" or just simply "Why?" and mostly i answer with "why not?" My choice of city is fairly random, i just gravitated towards it, no real conscious reason as to why, let's call it destiny. I took my savings, i booked my flights, i found a place to stay and i put it to the back of my mind.
A good few months later, excited and scared i boarded a flight.

I have travelled before, sometimes alone but often with friends or family. I had never gone for more than a week and i had never gone more than 1000 miles away from home base.
I left with no defined purpose, no "this is what i want out of this trip" list and no idea of what it would do to me. Much of my trip was spent coasting on adrenaline and adventure. I did tourist-y things and shopped and explored my new city.
I also spent a lot of time observing.
Observing a culture i've had a little obsession with for quite some time.
Culturally, nothing shocked me. I was momentarily taken aback by some things, people's attitudes or actions, the fact that TV is more adverts than shows. There were lots of things i liked though, people seemed more open and friendly. I ended up staying with the coolest woman in her 70's, she knew the guy i originally booked accommodation with who bailed on me and said yes to having me in her spare room knowing only my name and age. She turned out to be such a wonderful part of my trip. People approached me on the street to say they liked my clothes, or my bottom (thank you again to the men of Seattle who publicly appreciated my "ass") random conversations would start in shops and go on for ages and not get boring!
There was in general a quite relaxed attitude and I got the impression that Seattle is quite liberal, which i liked.
The one thing i really couldn't understand was how separate i felt from people my own age. Obviously i spent a comparatively small amount of time in the USA but i felt very mature. Maybe it's the 21 drinking age thing but i mean, people my age seemed to be acting the way i did at 15 - 16 and the people i met in their early 20's were more like myself. I hung out with a group of 21 to 23 year olds one time who pretty much froze me out the second i said i was 19 (they were all going out to a bar later that night, i knew i couldn't but wanted to chill with them before they left). I just sat there thinking "I've been drinking legally for longer than you, and don't even get me started on illegally!" It sounds silly but i felt pretty shit that it was such a big deal!

At this point i kinda just have to totally un-smoothly cut to another subject.
The personal journey that the trip became.

I always had an inkling that one month alone in Seattle would be a good exercise in finding myself and it really, really was.
To break it down, i don't know if i really came back the same person at all.
When you're alone, which i was (aside from facebook the only contact i had to home was one phone call to my dad) you really have to get to know and like and love yourself, else you're fucked. F U C K E D. I'm serious, if you are the only company you have and you can't even say "i like you" you're in for one rubbish time.
I have always been independent and pretty good at alone time but the first week broke me.
I cried and i wallowed in my own self pity and i brooded and i cried. And i realised how shit my life had got because i'd gotten too lazy to live it, i was in a constant state of waiting for something good to happen; so focused on the future i was missing the present. I noticed how ungrateful i'd become, how little i appreciated the small things that every person should appreciate openly and loudly so everyone knows!
I could go on listing but let's just say i realised a lot; a whole damn lot.
I found comfort in the lyrics of this song: Can't Go Back Now by The Weepies, i don't know the band i just found the lyrics on a blog and looked it up. As cliched as it may be, the line "In the end the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself" really saw me through some tough moments. I think that lyric, finding the ability to love and praise myself and keeping a journal may have been the things that stopped me from losing my mind at times.
It was hard. But it was amazing.
I laughed just now, remembering how much i cried in my first week and then i saw this in my journal
"I remember looking out of the plane window on flight here, seeing Seattle lit up below me
and crying. Because i was proud of myself, because i had done it. I think those might have
been the only tears worth crying."
They really were.

I encourage anyone who wants to travel or see a place to go alone, just do it. Be scared and lost and alone and scared and excited. Please. Because honestly, it will do you so much good. I learnt so much about what i can achieve, from start to finish i financed, organised and did the trip alone and more importantly i recognised how amazing it was that i managed it. For the first time i was able to say to myself "i'm proud of you" and "i love you" and there is no feeling like realising your own awesomeness : )

It's really hard to write this down, because it just doesn't come out of my head well, but i hope i've got the general feeling across.
I do love talking about it in detail to anyone with the tiniest bit of interest so if you have a specific question then please please feel free to ask it and i will endeavour to answer as best i can.

Happy Easter Sunday

Easter = a holiday i often forget is religious.
"Oh, Jesus died and then came back to life? I thought it was just all chocolate and shit."

I'd never had a peep before this Easter, woop for sugar.

After two days of perfect spring weather we are now once again under a blanket of grey here, that's not a complaint though, just an observation!
This morning i went to the family brunch of the people i am staying with, i stayed pretty quiet and ate my amazing french toast (with bacon, i don't get 'mericans) but everyone was really lovely and welcoming. The place we ate at was at the Fisherman's Terminal, which, just to let you know, is where they keep the Deadliest Catch boats in the non fishing season.

I am now entering my last full week in Seattle. And whilst i am more than ready to be at home, i will miss this city, yessir.
It is very difficult to explain how much this trip has given me & how much i think it will continue to give even after i leave.
I've been keeping a journal, expressing myself in words and drawings. Some is my own original stuff, some is lyrics and sentences i've stumbled across whilst here that i felt summed up a feeling or thought i was having.
I'm really looking forward to doing my monthly round-up post and i'm also going to do a separate Seattle post.
I want to share what this trip has given me so it will be word heavy but there will be pictures too, samples from my journal, photos i have taken & images i have found.
I am so excited to share my real journey with you lovelies : )

aeroporto

Just a few pictures from the departures "lounge" where i had to sit and wait for 3 hours yesterday, i suppose i'd rather that than have the Phalanges or whatever explode halfway through the flight, but still i did let out a little groan when they made the announcement.

not really an OOTD but BOOTS,LEGGINGS & SCARF:EVANS DRESS:H&M

this little lady was flapping around the B gates at Heathrow, she sat on my bench for quite a while so i took some pictures and even had time to draw her.
I decided that she was a good omen.
(i'm assuming it was female due to the lack of fance in the feathers)

Quickly

So i have a spare 9 minutes and i'm going to spend it explaining why i haven't posted shit for a considerable amount of time.

Me. Too. Busy.

It sucks, but it's true.
I mean come on people i have to ring America in 8 minutes. I have to add like, 3 extra digits to an already strange looking phone number and the phones there ring funny and yesterday when i left a message (man better pick up today) a very American sounding lady asked me if i'd like to send a numerical page and i'm sure at one point she said press the pound key!
The pound key? Numerical page? Confused?!

I also still have to pack, it's taken two days to pack 8 tops and a box of tea : / i need to up my game.

However despite all this pound key, packing, America prep nonsense, i'm taking my laptop with me now so i will be LIVE from Seattle starting this Monday and you can bet your bottom dollar that i will be on a posting frenzy
: D

I'm so excited for this trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111111111111111oneone

U. S. A.

I'm off to the United States of America in a little over a month. And i am staying for, a little over a month.

My base is Seattle, which makes it sound like i have a whole trunk load of stuff planned but i don't. I've paid for a months accommodation there so i probably won't venture too far out of the city or go for too long.

The point of this post is to say that I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED I COULD EASILY DANCE NAKED IN THE STREET.
woahh, sorry, that just came out.
Obviously, as showcased by Exhibit A (see above), i am excited. But the other point of this post is to try and figure out what i'm going to do with my blog whilst i'm away.

I'm not taking much of the equipment i use for every post with me (including my laptop) so it will be much more challenging to regularly create posts.
Especially fashion-y ones like OOTD's. And i whilst i talk about a lot on here, Bust My Buttons is still primarily a fashion blog so i'd feel silly doing posts without stuff like that.

I guess what i want to know is will you, my lovely readers, be happy with say one post a week just generally rounding up a few things i have done and hopefully squeezing in some clothes and shit?
Or would you rather just have a big phatty bunch of well constructed updates when i'm back home?

Maybe you'd like to see some guest posts? Or maybe you'd like to write a guest post?
(the whole guest post idea just came to me, and i like it, please comment if interested, details to follow)

Finally, if someone who reads lives in or near Seattle, holla yeah. I'd love to see your face for reals.

The Return Of The Morgaine

Sorry if you were hoping for Morgaine to be Jedi and a that this was going to be a Star Wars inspired post. I'm gonna have to leave you sorely disappointed.

It's just me, back from my trip to Birmingham.

I had a really good trip, seeing lovely people, spending too much money and drinking too much alcohol.
I was hoping to return with a shed load of pictures but i really didn't take many, too much exciting stuff going on i guess!

Here's a selection of pictures:
 Marmalade
 Autumn
 Catherine
 Yo! Sushi
 Chicken Katsu
Tofu Salad, in case you haven't guessed yet, i'm not a big fish eater!
Tasty
Urban Outfitters
Margaritas
Man Repeller
I Make...
...Amazing Pizza
Phillip, not intoxicated at all.

I only managed to take one set of OOTD pictures, which is a shame because i think i made a pretty good effort clothes wise, but what happened happened and here is my one OOTD shot from the day we went to visit Cath's Dad (who's totally like an uncle to me) we also popped to Tesco to buy pizza stuff and hangover brekkie food, you all know supermarkets are the place to showcase your amazing style.

DRESS:ASOS CURVE BLAZER,SHOES&TIGHTS:EVANS

Showing off my new brogues! Now they're all worn in and the leather is all buttery and warm they are so comfy, any of you thinking of getting a pair of these or other real leather shoes do not be scared if they feel a fraction too tight, in my experience leather shoes always stretch out and mould to your feet.
I've worn this dress a ton of different ways, between that, the fact it was £15 and the quality of it; i for sure consider it one of my best buys from ASOS Curve.
The blazer is nothing super special, just a black over sized number. Sometimes i love it, sometimes i think it makes me look so broad i could be The Incredible Hulk's shoulder stunt double.
My face is all moody and what not here, i was in a rush to get out the door and had taken quite long enough as it was, and even though i'd taken my time i still forgot mascara, pfftt.

I hit up the Bullring whilst in Brum and had a lovely time shopping, bought myself the most amazing pair of boots (they're so great I'm doing a separate post on them) and a fisheye camera (took shit loads of pics on that but it's film so you'll have to wait until they're developed).
Stephanie mentioned on my goodbye post that i should look out for the Forever 21 location, i didn't get her comment until yesterday but i did spot it and promptly had a fit of excitement in the shopping center, thank god it was a Thursday and not very busy. Catherine, my host for the week and beautiful friend (pictured above) is probably gonna have to deal with me visiting way more often once the store opens.

I'm 99% sure i have said everything there is to say and shown all the pictures there are to show so i'm off.
After nearly a week of not blogging, or even going online, all this typing and looking at a screen is hurting me, tea break well and truly needed!
